ok I have been reading the questions for about a week now and many people ask about good places to stay. I never hear anything about Harrah's. Is it a nice place to stay? It looks like it is in the middle of the strip. Please let me know because since I visit thier casino in North Carolina I am able to get a room for $55. Is that a good deal or could I find better?

harrahs is on the strip....I have stayed there twice. it a nice place to stay.... it isn't a mega resort but the casino is nice, the restaurants are good....the pool ,well, is just a pool... I am going in aug also and am staying at flamingo ( 2 free rooms) could fo stayed at harrahs also free, but the pool area at flamingo is nicer, although the hotel itself is older than others. but in vegas you are not in your room except to sleep a few hours a day or night.....good luck
Harrah's is fine and it's still a very popular place with seasoned Harrah's gamblers throughout the nation.
It's kind of like there are two classes of hotel casinos here in Vegas: the older "gambler's" casinos like Harrah's, Tropicana, Ballys, the Frontier, etc and the newer Disney-ish mega-resorts like MGM Grand, TI, Mirage, Luxor, NYNY. The major difference is that while the older casinos still offer plenty in the way of restaurants, shows, and gaming... they don't have the "themed decor" thing going on and they don't offer the roller coasters, virtual reality rides, and other family-type attractions that the newer places do and their pool areas tend to be less spectacular.
So Harrah's is "classic old-style" Vegas. My aunt is a member with them and stays there often. The rooms are fine--nothing extra-fancy, but nice and clean and a bit larger than the rooms at some of the newer places. The casino is very popular, and the mid-strip location is great. I think the reason it doesn't get much press is because their basic rates available to the general public really aren't that great compared to similar properties, but of course since you're a gambler with them, you get a good deal... and that makes it worthwhile, which is kinda the name of the game at Harrah's. They're almost more of a "club" than a hotel; they are very good at keeping their gamblers happy.
Here is the official hotel site for more info on the property:

p.s. the person who said Harrah's is not on the Strip is mistaken. It's right smack-dab in the middle of the Strip, easy walking distance to some spectacular properties such as Caesar's Palace, Bellagio, Paris, Mirage, & Venetian. Here's a good map of the Strip for you. FYI Aladdin is now Planet Hollywood, the Stardust is now only dust, after its recent implosion, and Barbary Coast has been renamed "Bill's Gambling Hall", but other than that this is current. It is about 5 miles from Mandalay Bay on the south end to Stratosphere on the north end.

Harrahs is NOT downtown. It is center strip, across the street from Mirage. It is not a terrible hotel but it certainly isnt the nicest. If you are a Harrahs Total Rewards member, try to see if you can get the same deal at Ballys, Flamingo or Rio. All are better hotel with nicer rooms and properties. You can check out pics of all of them on my site at...

I have been to las Vegas Many Many times. I turned 21 there, I was married there, etc. Harrahs is a very nice place to stay. Its downtown within walking distance to a whole bunch of really fun and pretty cool places. Shopping, Dining, and especially gambling. Remember if you stick with harrahs next time you want to visit one, it could be even cheaper! Good Luck
Downtown Las Vegas is ghetto. Harrah's is not on the strip. You could probably get somewhere nicer for $55. The Flamingo is a great place to stay.
It's nice. The rooms are basic are but nice, and they have a great buffet. $55 is a great deal. It's in a good location.
