That's unusual and it could be something you did. It could be a rare illness etc. I'm sorry for your loss this kind of thing happens don't blame yourself. But don't rule out your own action yet? Have you owned Hamsters before?
What age,sex and type of Hamster did you have?
What type of foods, bedding and or nesting material did you use.
In cases like this a lot of the time it was heat or cold that killed the hamster. I assume the hamster did not have any cage mates?
A lot of handling or moving the cage and other things that can cause stress, that can kill hamsters. But it usually takes quite a bit for it to happen that fast etc. Was there signs of Wet Tail? Look up what Wet Tail is?
Again we need to know what type of Hamster and it's general living conditions before guessing. And you had it for 2 weeks how old was it before you bought it? I will post a diet link see if you made any big mistakes on the diet part.
Were was it found dead in the cage? Was there any other important facts you could give us?

Not saying your wrong at all all hamsters are different. But I have kept hamsters near fans most of there lives and have never had issues. The fans don't blow on them that would be bad! But being near fans is alright from what I have witnessed. I also change up there cage lay outs often at least once a month on average. I rearrange objects, remove some, add new ones in. To keep there life new and interesting. It has helped more than caused problems from my experience.
If it was store bought, thatvhappens a lot because they are being taken away from friends and what they know, he could of been over stressed if you cleaned his cage out to many time it could of resulted in change and the do not like change often. Rodents are picky, once you've set something up, if you change it, and heck breaks loose. or if you had a fan on in your room or something, it could of given him a URI, but you would know if he had that.
Was Your Hamster Eating the food you were giving it? Was it drinking the water you were giving it? Did it get a appropriate amount of sleep? Maybe it just had health problems. Check this site for more help/info: http://www.aspca.org/pet-care/small-pet-care/hamst...
