On the surface of his personality:
Filbert Blackstream is an egotistical and chauvinistic cult leader who founded the Japhetite Community and the Ministry of Vision (a parachurch organization). He seems to have issues women, he doesn't like women being independent or being 'decision-makers'. He pretty much prefers the ideal womanhood of the Victorian and Puritan era. All the girls in his cult behave girly girly, to a degrading point where they see themselves as lesser then men; they refuse to go to college, get a job or go on dates, or even marry anyone without their father's permission. In fact, the cult pretty much worships the father as a Priest/Patriarch/Prophet. He entices his followers with illusions of the ideal Family, and promises of great happiness, prosperity and going back to the 'Good Old Days'. Filbert is disturbed by the 'feminization' of men in modern society and pop culture, yet he displays mild behaviors of effeminacy; he likes to dress in old-fashion costumes, takes a group of men and young boys on 'hazardous journeys' to 'prove' their manliness, and they talk about how the Titanic is a symbol of chivalrous manhood and martyrdom. Apart from his evangelical zealotry, he seems to be quite male-oriented in his business.
And in depth:
Filbert started out as a young boy who lived in an idyllic childhood, his father was a politician and a devout Evangelical. The only thing that bothered him was his mother; Mrs. Blackstream was a cold, stubborn and iron-willed woman with a fierce devotion to Church and Country. Her marriage to Mr. Blackstream was an unhappy one, she hated feeling any passion in bed and was disgusted of her husband's 'manhood'. Their passionless marriage lead Mr. Blackstream to have an affair with his housemaid, resulting to the birth of Filbert. Mrs. Blackstream was angry when she learned of the affair, but she promised to raise Filbert as her own, mostly for the sake of appearance and to avoid scandal. Growing up Filbert was terrified of his step-mother who berated and bullied him harshly, and castrated her husband (metaphorically). By the time of her death in an accident, when Filbert was 9 years old, Mr. Blackstream told him the truth and married Filbert's real mother, who was a passive woman with girly-girly daughters. Years later, Filbert studied to become a Pastor and created his ministry, which slowly lead to its cult-like status. But to this day, he still has nightmares of his step-mother.

He sounds rather three-dimensional, which is good, but at the same time... What could the book possibly explore in terms of his story? In any case, the insanity/cult-following stuff seems a bit cliche--though, just about everything is cliche these days. The real substance will be how you develop his character and story, making him dynamic rather than static. I honestly do think that Filbert is a little corny (with the whole "my mother not my mother" thing, and also the cult is rather stereotypical), but with the right touches, you can make him unique--for example, perhaps the cult has dissidents, and something terribly ominous occurs to those who disagree. Or, maybe Filbert is actually following a vision he had as a child, which he later realizes was simply an everyday occurrence seen through a child's veiled eyes. The little things are what will make your character.
Greed is a rather user-friendly yet very achieveable motivation. desirous to be useful is slightly much less so, i think of, yet whilst it isn't the only motivation, it would be a typical component to it. you may create greater conflict by using including layers to those 2. as an occasion, quite a few people inspired by using greed have a private view of the international that justify their strikes. Jeff Skilling, the former president of Enron, as an occasion believed in social darwinism and used it to justify usual super lay offs interior the employer. interior the action picture Wall highway, villain Gordon Gekko's motto is "Greed is stable" as he says he believes that greed advances humankind, because of the fact it motivates them to bypass forward. quite a few ability hungry people additionally justify themselves by using asserting they are struggling with for a much better reason. they desire ability because of the fact ability is a ability to an end. money additionally could be a ability to an end. it relatively is as much as you to be certain what your villain is relatively after.
