I live in southeast Michigan. I found 2 huge spiders in my basement, they were at least the size of a 50 cent piece. They had long skinny legs, and were brown. The body was long and skinny there was an odd shaped light brown spot on its butt. It wasn't crawling up the stairs but jumping up each stair. I killed and flushed them both before i thought to take a picture. Any ideas on what it might be?

Michigan is too far north to find huntsman spiders, which is the only
spider I am aware of matching your description. they can jump
a few legspans, but will crawl(run) if they can. never saw a wolf
spider jump more than a couple inches, and only then attacking
prey. jump spiders are just not close to that size.
Something other than a spider is also possible, and a cave cricket
was suggested.
Perhaps if you spot another, a photo or two may reveal what it is.
Big brown Spider!
Probably a variation of a jumping spider. I'd have to have pics to disguinish this though.
we call them cave/cricket spiders and they are gross!!!!! by the way, if u kill one and leave it on floor, it will be gone the next day.
