This question is so dumb. I don't know why people are always asking it. There are a thousand different ways you can measure a society. In any given society, there will always be some metrics that are declining, and some that are improving. Instead, you should ask: "In which ways is America society declining, and in which ways is it improving?"
I'll tell you the answer to that question. The labor force participation rate is declining, especially among working age men. And the percentage of out of wedlock births is increasing, which is bad. The amount of unnecessary regulation is increasing, which is bad.
Crime and poverty are down over the long term, which is good. Crime might have increased compared to a couple years ago, but I expect this is just a blip.
We won't know that until its History has been written a thousand years after it has truly declined.
In 1979 Britain was headed to be the 8th Economy in the world after Iran within 2 years. It was written off by every Socialist scumbag who could read, and was destined to be the 10th economy in the world by 2000, behind USSR, Brazil, and China.
China leaped ahead by adopting British liassez faire as was in use in Hong Kong, a British Protectorate.
Currently Britain is the 5th largest Economy in the world, Oops
I think the death of America is somewhat premature, come back in a thousand years and ask me again?
The sheepish way Americans follow politicians into "patriotic" wars, like Iraq. The spying on its own citizens ... the Patriot Act. Government is not for the people, it s for business. Business wants to roll back time to the late 1800's and early 1900's where workers were on the job for 12 or more hours a day for 6 and 1/2 or 7 days a week, paying them no benefits. Ford paid workers $5 per day (not hour) and that was considered high pay. The Supreme Court declares that "businesses are people too" and they get more control over the political situation. The 99% are really treated like slaves .. Yeah one person pulls itself out of the dregs ... 1 in 50 million and that fuels the belief that "anyone can get ahead" when nothing could be further from the truth. Jobs leave the country and the "service sector" is the only one "creating jobs". Let me translate that .. you can get a job at a fast food place for minimum wage.
We elect babbling idiots, Bush 2, as president. What did you expect from him? There are no "statesmen" anymore ... No Jefferson, Adams, TR, nor FDR ... even Eisenhower, who realized that the Presidency was a joke and was buried with medals from the D-Day assault and nothing from his political times. Politicians look out mainly for themselves by looking out for business interests of the rich contributors.
This system is too entrenched .. it cannot improve, but will only decline.
The problem is that Americans hold onto guns in the belief or stated belief that they need to fight their own Government. Americans hate their Governmental institutions and particularly the police. A major disaster such as San Andreas or a volcano and Americans will start shooting each other to 'survive'.
The Republics will, no doubt, move to leave the Union when they lose the next Presidential Election. God help the world if the next Democratic President speaks only Spanish....
Yes. Culture wars are very destructive and no end seems possible. Concentration of wealth at top is crushing the middle class. Wanting to be the world's leading power while scared of losing a couple of thousand soldiers a year shows a lack of backbone. Claiming to be a promoter of democracy while supporting anti-democratic regimes has destroyed USA reputation in many places. The education system is very backward with stupid content and crazy testing. College is too expensive. Healthcare systems are irrational and very expensive.

The world society is in decline.
But, American society is particularly in decline.
Society as a whole is declining. That's all I can say.
