I'm looking to build myself a PC (first time builder) and I want the possibility of overclocking open to me. I'm looking at the i5 3570k, I would have a liquid cooling system installed but I've been told sandybridge is better for overclocking... I've also heard elsewhere that ivybridge overclocks better if you have liquid cooling... Which is REALLY better for OC'ing and why?

Hi both generations have pros and cons. Sandy bridge is a good for overoclocking , low heat in higher overclocks, low price. But 3rd gen processors have features like USB 3, caching, GPU switching(software mode), PCI-E 3rd gen(2x PCI-E gen2) and so on. But the only real problem is it get really hot when you reach 4.7 GHZ. Till then it is very good and stable. But after that you need a custom water loop to cool it. No air coolers or seeled water coolers can't handle it. But remember it is 300MHZ faster than 2nd gen. It means 3rd gen 4.7GHZ means 2nd gen 5.0 GHZ. So the choice is yours. I personally choose IVY Bridge as it has many great features.
