I have seen The Notebook, A Walk to Remember, and Message in a Bottle. A friend recently gave me The Rescue to read. I am leery to read it because all the others ones I have seen as movies have been so very sad.
Can anyone give me some help here so I can decide whether to read it our not?
Thanks so much,
Kare Bare

i read the all of those books, too. i really love the way he writes. Anyway, the book is a little sad, but not really. There are few parts here and there that are sad, but the ending is a happy ending. there is like a chapter or so that is sad, but it has to do with love and why the guy in the novel cant really love anyone. (it is like a flashback, but he is telling a story to the girl) i hope you find what you are looking for!
p.s-if you dont like tragic books, DO NOT read the guardian by nicholas sparks or at first sight
The best Nicholas Sparks book is The Wedding. It actually has a happy ending. Most of the others do not. I have not personally read The Rescue precisely for that reason. I did love The Notebook...I won't lie. But it was upsetting as well. And Message in a Bottle was not redemptive in any way for me. Too sad. Too pointless. I can see *tragic* if it's beautiful like The Notebook or A Walk To Remember though.
I have found most of his stories to be heart wrenching. I think if this is something that makes you feel bad after reading it, it is not worth doing to yourself. Find some lovely uplifting books to read. I have found books really do affect your mood as do movies.
You might enjoy the Mitford Series by Jan Karon. They are happy and leave you feeling glad you read them.
The Rescue is kind of sad, but the message in it is very moving, and it does have a very happy ending.. .I think you'd enjoy it :)
Yes all of his books at some point are sad but they always have happy endings.
his books are really sad i read a walk to remmember and i was crying through the entire ending section... i wished i never read cause it was so sad... i mean the book was good but sad
pretty much, but... always worth the read, he writes like most women feel, is that so bad? and movies don't tell you enough, must read the book!!!!
