Because of some newly discovered health problems, my little sister has been put on an "unprocessed food diet". We are trying to figure out what things she can and can't eat but we don't know what foods are considered processed. I've heard cheese, rolled oats, and whole wheat pastas aren't processed but I thought they were.
If you could give me a list of some unprocessed foods that would help me SO much!
Thank you!

All food is processed to some extent or it would still be running around in the pasture or growing in a field. The act of harvesting and getting a vegetable table ready is called processing.
What her doctor was probably talking about is "highly processed" which means things like hot dogs, bologna and other cold cuts, tv dinners, ravioli in cans, canned soups, mac and cheese meals, things like that.
If you stick with fresh or frozen veggies, fruits, meats, fresh eggs, butter, milk, etc. you will end up with all minimally processed foods. Margarine is a great example of processed foods.
pastas ARE processed but plain pasta is minimally processed.
Natural cheese is less processed than Cheez WHiz, for example.
Your sisters doctor should have set up a consult with a dietitian because his instructions are pretty vague and a dietitian can help wade through those kinds of vague directions.
make all your own food and that's as unprocessed as it gets. make bread with real flour you grow or bought from an organic food store. fruits and veggies are unprocessed. (not including mini carrots)
This would be something to ask your doctor...... but just think homemade food...... All fresh... Example: if she wants to have pasta you have to make your pasta and tomato sauce.
