More than 30 countries eat maggots for the protein. It isn't that big of a deal. No one ever died eating maggots. You are fine.

Some countries live in horrible poverty, first answerer. Some countries eat human beings. Others live in unhealthy surroundings and perpetuate epidemics. Just because some crap hole country half way around the world eats maggots doesn't mean they are good for you.

You should be more concerned with how they ended up freeze dried. This is probably a huge health code violation, particularly so if it was made in America or any other Western nation.

Report them to the appropriate authorities, is my advice. If you get seriously ill (unlikely) then sue the company. I would also make sure you vomit out all of the maggots, just to make sure their eggs are gone.
