my daughter is 9 months old, she has ear tags and a permanent hearing loss in one ear, they say this is linked together with kidney problems. she is being sent for a renal ultra sound. i was just wondering what they are actually looking for with this? has anyone had one? what will they see?

The information given by the other answerer regarding pain is not correct. This is NOT a painful procedure and your daughter should tolerate it well, other than keeping her still long enough to get good pictures. They are looking at the size, location of her kidneys to confirm whether there is any abnormality present.
The ultrasound will show up your daughters kidneys, bowel and bladder and make sure that everything is working ok. Is her kidney function right? i.e. making sure that all the fluid is draining from the kidneys and is being properly processes. It is a painful process which makes sure that there is no scarring on the kidneys. It is great to get this done as if there are any problems they can be caught in time and fixed. Ultrasounds are great as if there are any problems in the future the will have a comparsion the see how her kidneys are developing and growing.
I hope your daughter gets better and has no problems in the future :) :) :)
