Reward system in Primary school?
Hello,
I'm starting in my first year 1 class in September and I'm trying to figure out the best reward system to use.
The current reception teacher who has just finished teaching my class rewards children with prizes (balloons, bubbles, games etc) when they receive a certain amount of merits.
Apparently the children respond really well to this.
However as an NQT it isn't feasible for me to buy presents or rewards.
Has anyone used anything similar that would work for my class that doesn't require expensive rewards?

One school I taught in had a good system: Each time a pupil did something particularly praise-worthy, they were given a token (e.g. a coloured button) to drop into a communal box. If enough of these were in the box by Friday afternoon (you need to decide on what you think is a reasonable number) then the whole class could have a 'treat' for the last hour of the day e.g. play some table games, have a story read to them, watch a DVD, do some painting or whatever. The names of any children who contributed to the button-box were written on a piece of paper and then the teacher drew one name out of a hat at the end of the week and that child could choose what the treat would be.
