Before a run make sure you are well hydrated (your pee should be almost clear) and eat a quick snack before a run like an apple with peanut butter and ar banana.

Eating bananas will help with that. Bananas contain potassium, which can help prevent cramps.
You might be dehydrated, which can also cause cramps. Drink LOTS of water. I can't emphasize it enough.
Running on a full stomach will also cause cramps - and a feeling like you want to throw up.
