Rib injuries are particularly paiful for some reason. Cracking a rib or even just bruising the bone can be quite painful, nevermind actually breaking the rib. It's usually much more painful than the actual damage. It's painful to breathe or laugh (sneezing is also quite bad) but you aren't going to do yourself much damage (if any). The only exception to that is if the rib is completely broken and there is a sharp end sticking out (that is very dangerous as it could puncture your lung - you'd know).
There's not much you can do about it except make yourself comfortable and rest. You can still do light exercise like walking (let pain be your guide). You should always drink enough water but the rib injury itself has nothing to do with drinking enough water.
A cracked or bruised rib usually takes a couple of weeks to heal. If it takes longer than that or if it gets worse, see a doctor. (though other than taking an x-ray to find out exactly what is wrong there is not much a doctor can do about it either) You just have to suck it up and rest. Maybe take some over the counter pain killers if it is really painful (ibuprofen is good but there are lots of choices). Yeah, I know it sucks, I've had plenty of rib injuries and they aren't fun but it won't kill you. In this case, and almost always, rest is the best medicine.
P.S. - I would be highly suspicious of anyone calling themselves a doctor and 'prescribing' a specific drug without seeing you. (very unprofessional and quite suspicious)
Hi, there are a couple things that come to mind. First there are muscles in between your ribs which can strain and hurt like arms and legs, maybe more because you inhale and exhale. Second, keep track on when you inhale that it doesn't progress worse and worse to the point you are taking tiny breaths, this could be a sign of Pleurisy (Fluid in the lungs). Next, depending on your age, it could be growing pains. I hope this helps.
Heart assault? An X-ray does not exhibit something approximately center assaults. Could be an ulcer. Could be plenty of matters. You must pass for your household health practitioner and get looked at. The ER does not constantly do an intensive task - they simply make certain you are not loss of life.
