Running win. 7, 64bit, all current updates, Sony vaio laptop.
About a week or so ago I started getting this random error:
Windows cannot find 'C:\Users\Username\AppData\Roaming\5.exe'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again.
The error message pops up, seemingly randomly and if not addressed (pressing ok or the x) it just goes away. I've never heard of 5.exe, and searching online doesn't help me at all.
I've tried Malware bytes, avast antivirus, avast grime fighter, eusing registry cleaner and system restore to the last Windows update. Nothing worked.
I'd rather not have to format my machine, if at all possible. I'm at my wits end...
Thanks in advance.

Hi that sounds like a very frustrating computer problem and personally I've had my share of those. From what I know is that file name you mention might be linked to Adobe user preference files. The thing is different Adobe programs such as Flash Player, Adobe Reader , Shock Wave etc use different file folder names for their user preference files to be kept in.Sometimes you can renane them for example from 4.0 renamed to Old 4.0.
What I would try is locate every Adobe program installed in your computer's Add/Remove Programs and uninstall them one at a time but wright each one's name down before hand .Then go to Adobe.com and under search on their site type in the name of the Adobe program needed and download/install it.Do that with each Adobe program and then reboot system and see how the system works. You may want to run programs like Malwarebytes to see if it detects anything, also make sure under Win 7 menu , do a search in windows for Show Hidden Folders , click on it and scroll down be sure Show Hidden files, Folders is clicked off and run the malware software again.
Hope that helps and best of luck.By the way one thing people have noticed with that Virus is it has many different file local names and sometimes by logging into your comp via a different user the program seems to be gone. This is due to the fact that the Virus maybe only be in one User account and not in other accounts.
