I'm making a red velvet cake for my brother's birthday this weekend, and I made a practice cake last weekend to try it out. It came out delicious, it's just that the frosting was a little too sweet, and the outside of the cake itself looked pretty plain. So I was wondering if I should add chopped strawberries into the frosting? Or just add strawberries to the frosting that will go in between the layers, and use plain cream cheese frosting on top of the cake, and decorate it with a couple of full strawberries?

Well if you have the extra berries and are doing a layer cake . Then yes place strawberries between the layers . Take some more strawberries and puree them in a blender . Then stir them into your cream cheese icing before spreading over the cake .
