i'm going to high school next year. i don't know if i should go to the high school which has a uniform or the high school that doesn't have a dress code. they're both public schools. i personally can't live with the idea of uniforms. if i went to the uniformed school (liberty) i'd have to wear a plain (no logos) red, white, or blue top with kaki pants. no jeans. at all. i feel that fashion is a way to express yourself and your individuality. i cannot wear plain tops and kakis for 180 friggin days! what's your opinion. do you go to a uniform school? how is it? please, i need all the feedback i can get!

Count yourself lucky the worst 'uniform' you could have is a plain top with khaki pants! I live in Ireland and all Irish secondary schools (Irish version of high school) have a uniform - and I mean a uniform. Everyone wears the exact same thing - a wine skirt, white shirt and wine jumper. Thankfully they got rid of the tie a year ago! (And that's considered a 'nice' uniform.)
Trust me though, in a way I am kind of glad we have a uniform. If we had no uniform, I can only imagine the competition between the bitchs of our school about who had the nicest clothes. There is also no pressure on those who cannot afford any new clothes, otherwise there is the possibility they would be bullyed. I do love to express my individuality through my clothes, but in my opinion the school isn't really the place to do it.
I think you should choose the best school by what type of facilities etc. they offer and not on the basis of a uniform. Even if you do choose the uniform school, the uniform doesn't sound that bad. You can express your individuality through jewellery, hair wear and shoes. Also, that way, you don't have to decide every morning what clothes to wear.
Hopefully I helped! Good luck!
From a parent's point of view: You are going to school for an education not a fashion show. Attend the school with the best curriculum. Many people express their individuality with make-up, hair styles & colors, shoes & in their art work and in writing. Does it really matter what you wear to school in the long run? What are you going to do when you start to work? Most employeers have either a very strict dress code or uniforms that you have to wear daily. 180 days is actually less than half a year (365-180=185) and in a normal life span that is no time at all.
The school district where my girls attend school is looking into the whole uniform idea and I think it's a great idea. So many kids broke the dress code this year that all the first peroid teachers had to start checking everyone's clothes & shoes....and if the students weren't dress properly they got sent to In School Suspension! (Middle school & High School students) That's not what I want any teacher to have to do. Maybe if people would honor the dress codes ......
I've attended Catholic school all my life and have always had to wear uniforms. The good thing about uniforms is that people don't judge you on appearance because we're all wearing the same (of course different for the guys haha). They're more likely to take time out to talk to you, and then by the time they realize what stereotype you fit in (which is unfortunate but true) they probably will judge you on your character instead.
I can't say I don't like being able to express myself, but uniforms do help you meet more people with different tastes in music and clothing, and help you look beyond the "cover."
But I've never had to wear pants, and I don't know if I could handle wearing khaki pants everyday.
See if I were you I would go to the school that you do have to wear a uniforms. The way I look at it you don't have to worry what to wear the next day. Plus when you do find a real job after you are done high school. Then you will have to wear a uniforms. See my cousins in Toronto Ontario Canada have to wear a uniform for there choir. They don't mind it one bit. But with me I went to a high school that I didn't have to wear a uniform. But with me I am not Catholic. So I am hoping that this was helpful for you to choose what High School you would like to go to in the fall. So good luck in choosing.
Don't go to a highschool where uniforms are mandatory.
Hi Alicia my name is Alyshia. I graduated from a public highschool in Chicago,IL where they had a strict dress code but no uniforms. Everyone had to wear student id's daily and
gym uniform during gym class. Young ladies could not wear mini skirts, halters or revealing outfits.
Young men had to have their shirts tucked in and wear belts, no sagging jeans
Your main goal should be to get a good education and earn a diploma.
Have fun in High School-Stay cool and say no to drugs

I think it is much easier to express your individuality when you take clothes out of the equation. In high schools without uniforms, you really end up with a lot of uniforms. Each social group has their own uniform (rich kids, jocks, goths, emos, geeks, nerds, etc all wear clothing similar to everyone else in their social group daily) You are actually freed from labels based on what you wear and have the opportunity to associate based on who you are rather than what you wear.
Dress code school--fo' sure!
I can't bear living 180 days of plain shirts + khaki pants either!!! Plus, if you wanna look nice with the limited uniforms, you'd have to look real hard to find nice clothes!!
i used to until 8th grade. it was okay i guess. but now that ive gotten older i dont think i would like it. i always took my uniform off as soon as i got home. our school didnt exactly have a "uniform", but a VERY strict dress code. no showing your toes, not a lot of make up, only one bracelet and one necklace, no bright colored nail polish. and we had to wear navy blue pants or kahki pants. (capris for girls in summer), yellow, blue, dark green, white, black polos w/ only 2 buttons open on the polo, guys had to wear a shirt underneath. no hoodies. blah blah blah. i would suggest going to a no uniform high school because i dont think you'll like it. it gets old after a while. u cant express yourself.
Go to the school that has most to offer.
Perhaps there is a dress code for hair or not, but
I doubt there is a uniform for your bookbag.
There are other ways to express individuality.
Voice, perfume, personality... they can't hide who you are behind a uniform.
And you do not have to wear the uniform after school.
Go to the school that has most to offer.
i go to a school where there is no dress code, well at least not a very strict one. my friend goes to a school with a dress code, with about all the requirements you stated above. i've noticed that it was more difficult for her to find plain clothes in this labeled world then it is for me to find w/e i can. if you want to express yourself through your clothing i suggest go to a school where the dress code is less strict. of course all schools will have a dress code, otherwise people would go to school naked, it's just common sense. although by going to a school with a more lenient dress code does increase your chances at being labeled. follow your beliefs, it seems to me that you are leaning towards the more lenient school.
