Okay so I'm 14 and I've been a vegan for more than 2 weeks now, and I run Track, and Cross country, and Track starts soon. My brother is a Peskaterian (he only eats wild caught meat, and no diary) and he says that a lot of vegans in track and field collapse during their races, because of lack of protein. He told me to eat protein with every meal, but could really happen, where if I'm not getting enought protein, I could pass out running as hard as I can? Also if I eat wild meat will that increase my chances of getting cancer, and heart disease when I'm older? Is it okay to have like salmon or some kind of fish maybe like 2-3 times a weak, just for dinner?
Update:How much protein do I need a day if I workout like 21 hours a week, remember I'm 14 too, and I'm a growing boy.

If your brother's friends are really malnourished they must not be eating enough. Running burns calories, and yeah if you're not eating enough, you could become tired, or dizzy, or even faint. If you're still worried about it, then yes eat some fish or some protein powder, but understand that a well-planned vegan diet is just perfectly fine for an athlete. My vegan brother- and sister- in law work out every day and do those 100 mile bike rides. If your muscles are getting really sore after a workout and not recovering for a long time, that means you need more protein. If that doesn't happen, you're probably getting enough protein.

The amount of protein you need depends on your weight and activity level. There are a bunch of vegan-friendly foods with protein in them, like tofu, that you can eat instead of salmon if you don't want to eat it. VegaOne protein powder is also vegan and delicious! Just keep yourself healthy =)
It's not so much "Lack of protein", it's more so the fact that you need to get proteins forming the right chains of amino acids.

You can eat nuts and soy based products to get enough protein without having to resort to eating meat.
vegan diet will make you weak and you may collapse but most likely you wont be able to be very competitive! if you eat fish it should make you competitive! you don't need to eat meat but lean meat is also good for you!
