I have a 1 year old Lab-pointer mix. She's fairly small and also fairly headstrong. When she is scolded, she attempts to "burrow" under my legs. She only does this to the females in the family. She also tries to do it whenever we are sitting down; she will try to nudge our knees up so she can crawl under them.
Is this an odd behavior, something I should be concerned about, or is it just my dog's personality?

I know with many dogs( labs do this a lot) look for forgiveness. She doesn't want to make you upset with her. Our lab (3 year old female chocolate) hates to be scolded. She will give us " I love you eyes". This is the I'm real sorry look. Your dog is very normal, as for her reacting to the women in the house when she gets in trouble, she feels that they are protective and understanding. Dogs know these things. Tell her to lay down when she is pushing under the legs. She should know that you are a safe place to go when she needs you, but she has to know that doing a bad thing requires that you take control of her. She sounds like a sweet girl.
I have a weim female that I adopted about 1 and 1/2 yrs. ago- She does the exact same thing. And at night, she NEEDS to burrow under the covers to sleep. Even in warm weather-she'll crawl under the sheets. If she is stressed, nrevous or just feels the need to be around me,she also burrows under my legs. Only me- not my husband or sons. In fact- she's not too crazy about men in general. I think it may be the "hunting" part if the dog- weim, or in your case pointer.Maybe it's something to do with the pack behavior or something like that. This is the first "hunting type" dog I have ever had, and let metell ya- she has some really really odd behaviors too. Headstrong, very very serious looking and she always seems to be "on the look-out"
When dogs are scared, they want protection and you are the "mother figure". You are a female so she will seek out females as mother figures to burrow under for protection. Dogs feel safest when they are close to their owner and she is just trying to kiss up to you so she isnt scolded too.
I'd bet that she does it because she recognizes you as the "leader of the pack", and the same for the other females. Dogs operate much as wolves do, with a pack mentality. There are levels of authority, and she knows she's at the bottom of the heap. It's actually a good thing she's acting this way, and you'll be able to work with her since she knows she's not in charge.
I would comfort her. but I think this nudging has to stop. she will end up cowering forever if you do not think of another solution...show her what you would like her to do instead.
I personally know about nudging because my golden retriever pup used to nudge under my elbow while I was on the computer. we thought how cute how smart she wants attention. She is going on 4 years old now and when we have guests over she goes under their elbow and nudges. It means to the guest pet me. or play but she is becoming what we see as forceful. Not the end of the world but she acts like she is the leader of the pack and in any other instance that is not her role.
It is very normal. I have 3 female dogs all coming from abusive homes. They all tend to want to seek protection where they feel the most at ease. They will tend to grow out of it as they become more comfortable with their surroundings.
It is prob just the dog's personality. Something mite of scared her or did u get her when she was born. something could of happen to her by a male that she just feels safer around a female.
It is probably just her personality but make sure she gets rewarded when she is scolded and doesn't behave like this give her the attention she deserves
sounds like normal dog behavior, to me anyway
She's looking for you for protection
