Three friends and I will be in San Jose, Costa Rica in early January. We will fly into San Jose but only plan on staying for one night, then leave the following morning to take the bus to the Guanacaste region.
I've searched on some hostel websites but there are SO MANY different hostels in San Jose that I'm a bit overwhelmed.
My question is; Is there a specific part of town or hostel/cheap hotel you can recommend for 4 young guys to stay? Some attractions that would be nice to have nearby; bars, interesting architecture, historical areas, not totally ghetto or sketchy.
Thank you so much for any info you may have. Have a goodie.

There is one near the court building which is a few blocks from downtown San José, I don´t remember the name of it, I think it may be called backpackers hostel.
Another one is located about six blocks east of central avenue on the road to San Pedro is called Toruma.
Both are very cheap and pretty good for traveling on a budget.

VIVA Travel Guides is a great place to find information about travel in Latin and South America. People who have stayed in hostels in San Jose can post information and rate the accommodation. Here is a link to a bunch of reviews on hostel in Costa Rica:

I think you should first go by address. The area that you want to be in should be East of Calle 2 and North of Avenida Central. What are your options in this area?
