i have an ati radeon hd 5750, 1 gb gddr5 memory with 700 stream processors, 1.8 ghz quad core amd phenom, 480 watt psu, and on minecraft i get around 60 fps, which is unusual considering my old geforce gts 450 used to get around 350-400, could this be because of my processor?
Update:ok i made sure that v sync was off still averaged around 50 fps, and thats in a superflat world, i dont understand though cause i got 60 fps in portal 2 at 1080p on high/very high settings?

Minecraft recently introduced a "V sync" option in Video settings. V sync limits the FPS to 60. Try disabling this option in the settings. If it still persists check your Nvidia Control panel and disable V Sync from there.
V Sync = V sync is an option introduced into hardwares that locks the game's FPS to your screen refresh rate. Disabling V sync can normally cause tearing in the graphics since the screen cannot render fast enough the frames your GPU sends to your monitor.
EDIT: On your ATI card find a V sync option probably under 3D settings
I had a 5770, it was never a great card despite the benchmarks, but you should be getting more fps in minecraft.
go into options, under video options, set the thing from vsync to max fps.
If it still doesn't work, you can always swap back to your gts 450 :)
be careful approximately benchmarking,it places rigidity on your aspects and would lead them to fail. As to you question, this would be a power supply undertaking. Is your power supply sufficient to handle all which you have put in in you laptop? sturdy rule of thumb is to have a psu that has a minimum of two hundred watts extra beneficial than you're utilising with all your componets mixed. occasion--if all your componets includes 3 hundred watts and you have a 450 watt psu--then you definitely must be underpowered.
Yup, sounds like V Sync. Turn it off.
vertical sync, or anti aliasing
Oh, and i didn't even know phenom's can go as low as 1.8
