Having trouble diagnosing a cooling/AC problem. AC works (no leaks), and charged. Has main in-line cooling fan (runs w/engine all the time), and smaller electronic cooling fan for AC. Hooked power directly to electric fan and it checks out OK; however, not getting signal or power from sensor to turn on, therefore, not very cold air coming through. Checked fuse and it's not blown either. Checked Haynes manual but dircects me to check the coolant remperature switch. Is this also refered to as the coolant temperature sending unit? Where is this unit located?

The coolant temperature sensor is located int the thermostat housing, however; this is most likely not the problem as this sensor only sends information the the computer. If it was bad, you would see a check engine light.
I think you need to check the relay for "Aux Fan " located in the black fuse box under the hood, or at least it is on my 96 Cherokee. Switch it out with one of the other relays under there to see if it's bad.
The computer controls the fan on the later jeeps, so there is no coolant temperature switch like on the 87-90 cherokees located in the radiator. The fan should come on with the ac compressor, and also when the coolant gets to about 240 degrees, you could try letting the jeep sit idling until it gets to that temp to see if the fan will come on, too.
I have a 2001 jeep Cherokee sport 6 cylinder changed the thermostat, flushed the radiator, and flush the engine, and also changed the water pump. Engine still running hot.. I been told that I need to burp and purge the air system....How does one do that?
Coolant temp. sensor is next to the thermostat housing. Replace it or get a meter and check it. Don't have the voltage spec handy tho...
your compressor may need to be replaced. my friends jeep had that problem, and he kept having trouble with it. as a matter of fact he just got it out of the shop like yesterday
