I just saw an ad for a public school, and to clarify, I mean a television ad promoting a public school. It was your standard 30 second spot talking about how great the school was.
I haven't seen this before but I don't watch television very often so I could have missed them. Is this common? Is this standard practice now? It just seemed odd to me.... most school districts are struggling with budget cuts, seemed odd that a school would have the funds to produce and run an ad.
I recognize that this question is probably in the wrong category but I really didn't know where to put it. I figured people in the politics section might be more likely to know about this.....

I haven't heard of a specific public school running ads, but I have seen NJEA and NJ Department of Education ads on TV when I was in grade school as far back as ten or fifteen years. They were mainly along the lines of "Dude, our schools are awesome."
I think that for someone to invest money into a commercial about a particular school, or particular county... then they are probably trying to improve the public view of things (influence) and maybe they're doing that so people won't ask for more money, or be upset when they don't get it come time for the new budget...
uniforms do not end social hierarchies. youngsters (fairly women) will continuously locate a thank you to discriminate consistent with clothing. As for public college having unis, some already do. My sister is going to a public college that has uniforms. There are nevertheless the haves and function nots nevertheless, and youngsters keen to place emphasis on it.
