I could never ever find anything that fits my taste in clothing and I feel that some people like me feel the same. I have four years until I graduate high school but I was thinking of taking up fashion design at the art institute. I love media but it just doesn't suit my taste of art. I really like the idea of fashion design but am I making the right choice? I also want to know if you need any special skills to get into the program. I can sew anything but a tear in the pillowcase. Help! Am I making the right choice and do I need any skills?
Update:I love to draw ^.^
I'm weird so I hate the latest trends I do what I want when I want and wear what I want.

am i making the right choice?
- i cannot answer this question. there were some of my class mates whom realized that fashion design was not their passion after joining the class for a while.
even if they loved fashion and had good knowledge about it, so it's kinda hard to tell.
if you love art and you need art to express your emotion then fashion design may not suitable for you, you may opt to fine art majority.if you love art and you like craftmanship, then may be it will suit you. basically, fashion design is a pratical type of art.
do i need any skills?
- you don't have to be able to sew ( but it would be better if you have basic knowledge about it). you will be taught to sew but you are not expected to be able to master it. as you are expected to be a designer instead of a sewer.
it would help if you can and you love to draw, because you will do it a lot ^_^
be aware of the latest trends and start reading fashion magazines.
There are many other types of design disciplines that you can explore further besides fashion design, perhaps pursuing a degree in visual communication or graphic design might suit you better. Your best bet is to talk to existing students or school alumni to get some hindsight from them. An education is an investment of your talent, time and money - perhaps you can also talk to career consultants in schools as well.
