The man is hilarious, in fact Entertainment Weekly named him one of "The 25 Funniest People in America".
He rates right up there with Dan Brown (The DaVinci Code) in that he too is under litigation. Dr. Rodolph Turcotte, Burroughs's former legal guardian is claiming defamation of character because of the portrayal of the character Dr. Finch.
Have you seen who is in the film? Annette Bening, Alec Baldwin, Joseph Fiennes, Gwenyth Paltrow, and Burroughs will be in the film. It's supposed to come out this fall.
I hope its a balanced movie. Burroughs does have sadly poignant moments in his books. Should be interesting.
I think it's going to be a very tricky thing, putting "Running with Scissors" on film. It's so funny - that's easy enough, but it's also poignant and disturbing. I'm really afraid that the movie will pander to the hilarity and miss the underlying tragedy.
i love augusten burroughs writing. have you listened to his books on tape as well where he narrates? totally recommend. running with scissors, dry, magical thinking -- all hilarious.
