I'm 20 weeks with first child. Is it to early to register? I won't have the shower until October. Also, how do you feel about registering at multiple stores? Babies R Us costs a fortune, but their selection is great. Wal-Mart and others have smaller selections for cheaper.

I registered around 20 weeks. It's not too early and you can always go back and add stuff to your registry. Almost all of my friends registered at babies r us and at Target. Target for toys and clothes, and babies r us for everything else since the practical things there aren't really expensive, just the furniture and toys. However, I would recommend not doing it online since I know that most stores have things online that they don't have in the store. So unless a lot of your friends are gonna shop online, they might run into a problem finding things to buy that are actually at the store.
I don't think its too early. I registered around 20 weeks (as soon as I found out what I was having). I also registered at multiple stores, including Babies R Us, Wal-Mart and Target. I think it's a good idea to register at different places, so people have more options.
Good Luck!
It's never too early to register (and it's so fun!), but there will be things that will be discontinued before your shower. I wouldn't register for clothes until it's closer, because they will probably be gone before October.
Babies 'R Us is a great place to register, but it's not in every city, like Wal-Mart or Target, so just be weary of where your shower guests will most likely be shopping. I had to double register for everything at Target because there wasn't a Babies 'R Us in the town I had one of my baby showers in. And remember, like me, some people just hate stepping foot inside a Wal-Mart. Another option is Baby Depot, inside Burlington Coat Factory.
Have fun with it!
I'm not actually expecting a shower until after baby is born... whether someone decides to throw one sooner, i don't know yet. I'm not involved in planning mine. I think showers are solely at the generosity of the giver, so its a blessing if one is given. In the mean time i'm grateful for relatives for some nice hand-me-downs and an offer to buy a car seat. We've been given a cloth diaper starter kit. I have a couple sleepers that i bought a long time ago, that are unisex, so they'll do to bring baby home in. Otherwise, when we hit 37 weeks, we'll buy a few essentials and see how we go. I'm sure in an emergency, one of our mums could run to sprawl-Mart and pick something up.
It's NEVER too early to register....you may have friends and family who want to browse your selections already, especially ones that live out of town and may be coming to down between now and the shower!!
Go ahead and register at MULTIPLE locations and make sure to let your mother and siblings and good friends know about this (other friends and family members may call THEM to ask them where you are registered so they can SURPRISE you with a gift).
I find these stores to be EXCELLENT places to register:
Target
Babies R Us
Dillards
JC Penney
Wal-Mart
Belk
I think it would be okay to register early at someplace like Walmart, so people who don't get out much can start shopping. I would wait until late Aug/early Sept to register elsewhere because you run in to problems with the merchedise you registered for, being discontinued or out of stock. That actually makes it harder and more frusterating for the people who are shopping for you. If you register now, some of the items will be discontinued and replaced with more fall/winter type items.
I used to work at Pier 1 and people always made this mistake with bridal registries. By the time people would come in to shop (often the day before!), there was nothing left on the registry, they were frusterated, and often times opted to buy nothing instead...sometimes we couldn't even talk them in to a giftcard because they were so frusterated with the bride/groom. You don't want your baby registry to turn out like that :) Good luck and have fun!
I registered about 6-8 weeks before my shower
because if yours goes like mine,
a lot of my family and friends
had things that they had bought me from garage sales, stuff from thier babies they had just had and just stuff they bought me,
you want to make sure if your expecting gifts from other people besides your shower to wait to register at the last minute, or just mark your things online or in the store as bought so everyone knows what you have, i registered and then got half of my registery right before i sent out invitations, i registered at babies are us, because when i went to get my friends registry at target, it really wasnt as organized and there was more help at babies are us, more brands, and the prices arent that much more expensive than target, im not sure about kmart or walmart because i do not go there, but i found my experience at babies are us very delightful, there were people asking me if i needed help when at target i didnt know if i had the right product that was on the sheet and i couldnt find someone for like 10 minutes, but its your shower, i would register at babies are us, and whatever you dont get and need i would go to wal mart or kmart so you dont have to spend as much money, but people really like to go all out on baby showers, its just a fun time, congrats ♥
I am due the end of Jan and my hubby and I are going to register in November. We are doing multiple places; Babies R Us & Target. Target had a real good selection for low prices.
i'm 24 weeks & still haven't registered. my boyfriend is about to die to register...(i guess it has something to do with walking around scanning everything he wants to get the baby) but i say wait. it's not that i really want to wait but it's july & i'm due in nov. i'm not sure about where you're from but here, all the stores still have the cute lil summer dresses, bathing suits, tank top onsies, & all the other cute summer clothes. even the shoes and blankets and all are geared towards summer. we did notice the other night in walmart that there was a lot of clearance signs up & i told him that it meant winter clothes will be coming out. he got all giddy! i guess when more winter attire is available is when we'll register. good luck!
I think it is fine to register now. I regristered at Babies R Us and Target. Only one person at my shower bought me something from my list. So be prepared for that to happen.
