hey, so im looking to maybe pick up a 1979 F-250 and the mpg on those are terrible and wicked bad for the environment. i heard of veggie fuel and bio-diesel. i know you gotta have a diesel engine to convert it so im on the lookout for one. but what i want to know is if people can list what vehicle they have the veggie oil conversion in, how much the average mpg on it is, how much it totally cost for it all, and if theres anything after you can do. thank you a lot.

Bio diesel is almost identical with synthetic diesel in terms of MPG and performance.
The problems you have are viscosity, some veggie oils go solid at cold temperatures.
However just converting from gas to diesel would be a big saving for the environment, using bio-fuels just increases land use and drives up food prices.
Biodiesel is comparable to conventional diesel in terms of MPG, and price.
However, in some parts of the world biodiesel is actually cheaper than fossil fuel based diesel.
Also, if you live near a agricultural area, check out the local farms to see if they manufacture biodiesel.
"Veggie" diesel is a big deal in the Vermont farming industry these days.
