Well the free internet there must be coming from a source, more than likely the apartment uses DSL, if it does then you are gonna need a ADSL router or else it could be cable but that is unlikely because because you need a line. I you have the right router your best bet to get wireless on your laptop is to buy a USB adapter that works withthe type of router you have. Plug your router into the wall, plug your adapter into your laptop and that should work. Well i don't know if it would work without an adapter. Otherwise you could simply get a really long ethernet cord plug it into the wall and into your laptop, but thats not wireless. Sorry but I'm not the smartest when it comes to these things.

You will need to buy a router that is connected to the modem using a Category 5 cable (cat 5), that router is specifically used to transmit wireless through out the apartment, so you will need to set up a password for that router in case you do not want to share your internet with anyone else in the apartment : ), The range of internet depends on how much you are willing to spend on a router they range from 20.00 - 200.00 dollars---mainly the good ones are 50.00 bucks, i recommend LinkSy or something like that : )
