How to set post underwater?
I am building a boat dock on a lake lot. How do I set the post under water? I don't have a clue how to do this. I thought I might be able to drive them with a big sledge hammer or something, but how does everyone else to this that put in boat docks? Water is low now and I can set a few that are the closest to the bank. Lets see what you people can come up with! Hope it is better that what I did..

You need a High-pressure hose or pressure-washer with long hose. (Have you ever dug a hole with your garden hose?)
You need 2-3 people helping you. (1 in the water directing the HP hose. 1 person holding and directing the post. 1 person occasionally hitting the post with a sledge-hammer.)
When you get the post into the sand/mud about 6FT you need to pipe (using a PVC pipe) quick-set cement into and around the hole, (as deep as possible).
Your set post should be level.
You can also:
Set and sink (using the same method) a very large PVC pipe, (a little larger than a basketball), into the mud/sand about 4-5FT. Use quick set concrete cement and sink the post INSIDE the PVC pipe.
I have built docks and bulk-heads in Florida that have lasted over 30 years.
Hope this helps?
hey man, driving post in the water can get kinda expensive. here is a suggestion that you might want to look into first. ii have built a couple and my family has a couple on their ponds. use plastic 55 gallon drums. depending on how long you want it. say for a 12-15 foot dock use 4 barrels on each side and a couple on each end and just build off of them..the dock will move a bit but it sure is a hell of a lot cheeper.
but if you dont wanna do this here is you a website that has air drivers. take a look and compare.
hope this helps you a bit good luck good fishin be safe and remember to share the experience
