now, i recently (aka yesterday) installed windows xp pro and formatted my c: drive because i was not satisfied with vista... now that i've gotten this installed i easily found my graphics driver and the other programs i needed, but 1 problem has bugged me a lot. a can't identify my soundcard. i have looked in system information, device manager and even downloaded an automatic update driver, but every time i look it is either blank, or when i have my logitech usb speakers plugged in it says that the the speakers have their own driver... the problem is my headset will not be recognized, and i figured it might be something with the driver.
if further technical specs is needed please say so
Update:i've tried the program speccy, and all it says is that it finds no audio card, except for when i put in the usb speakers which says the audio card i the usb speakers.
btw the computer is built from different parts by a computer engineering company so it wouldn't help looking that up.
Update 3:also i remember a realtek icon in the system tray before formatting the computer, that could manipulate the sound

Is this a laptop? If so, Windows may not be recognizing the built-in sound and you may need the audio drivers specifically from your manufacturer. If you know the exact make and model # of your machine, go to your computer mfr's support web site and you should be able to download what you need. You're correct, the Logitech speakers use a generic USB sound driver which is completely separate from your computer's internal sound card so you can't use your headphones.
BTW, I've found a free tool for analyzing what's inside your computer that's way superior to System Info. It's called "Speccy", and you can get it here:
http://www.piriform.com/speccy
It might help you troubleshoot more accurately. If you're still having problems, update your question with the make/model of your computer, or (even better) the motherboard make/model and I can help you further.

Update: From the additional info you provided, it looks like you have an Asus G-SURF365 motherboard. To be sure, check this page and see if the photo looks like yours:
http://www.afterdawn.com/products/product_details....
The audio driver (Realtek ALC662) for this board can be downloaded here:
http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?mod...
Extract the files in the downloaded zip to any temporary location on your hard drive, then run "AsusSetup.exe"; it should install the drivers so Windows will recognize your sound card (you may have to reboot). The Realtec family is pretty broad, and there's a chance it might work even if this isn't the exact model you have, but if not, you shouldn't hurt anything ... in fact if the hardware is incorrect you'll probably get an error message saying the installation can't proceed. If you want to be extra-cautious create a system restore point before you run the install, and roll back if it's not successful.
Based on your info, there's also a (very slim!) chance you may have a Gigabyte GA-M68M-S2P motherboard. If you find anything printed on the board to verify this, go to Gigabyte's support page (also has a photo for comparison) at:
http://www.gigabyte.us/Support/Motherboard/Driver_...
Select "Windows XP" at the bottom where it says "Please choose your O/S", then download the first audio driver labeled "Realtek Function driver for Realtek Azalia audio chip", and proceed as above. But I feel pretty confident that the Asus driver will work.
Hope this helps!
