Firstly, go to your doctor....no one should have to put up with pain that stops them doing things.
You may have Fibromyalgia, as your description sounds a lot like it.
Secondly, ignore people like polymath1, if they're 75 and don't have any physical complaints, then good for them, but that doesn't mean that anyone who does have physical complaints like severe pain should just go out and exercise! In some cases (like Fibromyalgia and ME/CFS) exercising incorrectly can actually make it worse!!!
Good luck, and I hope you find some relief soon!
Here is a layman's answer to your problem. My siggestions are based on my reading and a continuous effort to keep myself in optimum health.
Normally body weight accumulates when the physique is not given the activity it needs to in order to keep the nuscles and the joints in "working order".This is provided
by normal physical activity like regular walks, climbing the stairs, bending and stretching etc. Most people tend avoid any movement that calls for physical effort, and the body becomes lethargic and slothful giving rise, eventually, to overweight, pains in the joints and muscular strain. If caught early on, thereis a good prospect that this situation can be reversed and rectified for ever.
The best way to tackle this awkward matter is to START MOVING. Do not be needlessly worried. You can organise your health with minimum exertion. First you must decide to improve your health and then act upon the decision. Here is a start: Start gentle walk every day. Start with say half a mile every day, and gradually extend it to 2 or 3 miles over a period of six months. You will soon find that you enjoy walking so much so that you cannot do without it. The strange thing about health is, that good health feed upon itself, just as mental depression feeds upon distress. If you develop the will to make it a point to make a start and continue it, come rain or shine, you will be a new person before you realise it. I am 75 years and I do not have any physical complaints of pain whatsoever. The reason is that I do not shun physical activity. And I can assure you that you too can be healthy and happy by doing the things I have suggested. Good luck, and many thanks for raising this issue.
Have you spoken with your doctor?
