I am thinking about getting a Logitech X540 surround sound system for my living room. I have a 5 year old Samsung 47" flat screen TV. I have my computer running though my TV and was hoping to watch movies on my TV through the computer and have surround sound. Can I plug this system into my TV and not have a problem?

The computer speakers plug into a computer.
- 5 speakers plug into the subwoofer, then you got wires that go from the subwoofer colored ins to the same colored outs on the computer (green fronts, black rears, orange center+subwoofer, grey sides).
If the tv has those colored ports, then it can accept computer speakers.
What you are looking at are computer speakers and as such they are designed to be connected to a computer's surround sound card. If you want true surround sound, that is where you need to connect those speakers.
Here is an example of how you would connect the X540's to your computer's surround sound card:
