He said my car's timing belt needs to be replaced and also the CMP sensor ??
He suggested the following:
1. Drive the way it is until it dies down on its own.
2. He also sells cars so he asked me to give him the car in exchange for a minivan thats in great condition (plus pay $1000 in cash).
My question is , is he taking advantage of my lack of experience in this matter ?
Its a Dodge Intrepid 1999 2.7 L
I'm wondering if I can purchase a used motor engine but how much should it cost ?
Also, can I go to Dodge dealership and trade in for better car than this mechanic ?

Any time a mechanic is offering to buy your car from you instead of fixing it, find another mechanic. He knows something you don't or he wouldn't be offering to buy the car from you IMO. He's not going to just be a nice guy and eat an expensive repair to do you a favor. He knows what's wrong isn't nearly as expensive to fix as what he's telling you or he wouldn't offer to take your car in the first place.
Installing a new timing belt and camshaft position sensor (if that's even what's really needed) would be fairly expensive but certainly not so expensive that it would cost more than the car is worth. Letting it die on its own would be completely stupid on your part and he never should have suggested it - once the engine is ruined THEN the repair would cost more than the car is worth.
If it were my car I'd definitely get another opinion.
scam scam scam take car somewhere else and never go back to the scamer also thanks for asking first
