Hi everyone im a new Magic the gathering player and was hoping for some help on my first deck :)
I was looking at the Innistrad starter packs, and really like Carnival of blood, a red/black vampire deck. I'm not sure though if it is a good ivestment because my friend who plays mtg says that the cards are not as strong, but he can help me build a better one from that one..
The cards are:
12 Mountain
12 Swamp
2 Blood Seeker
3 Bloodcrazed Neonate
1 Child of Night
2 Crossway Vampire
1 Falkenrath Marauders
2 Falkenrath Noble
2 Markov Patrician
1 Night Revelers
2 Rakish Heir
1 Sengir Vampire
2 Stromkirk Patrol
2 Vampire Interloper
1 Cobbled Wings
1 Curse of Stalked Prey
1 Diabolic Tutor
1 Fireball
1 Gruesome Deformity
2 Mask of Avacyn
1 Night Terrors
1 Tectonic Rift
1 Traitorous Blood
1 Traveler's Amulet
2 Tribute to Hunger
2 Vampiric Fury

The other option is to buy a pre-made mono black zombie deck from him, with some powerful cards(unfortunately, i don't know the whole card list). He is winning most of the games with that deck.
Do you guys think that this r/b deck is worth it, and if so, what changes besides olivia voldaren or go for the throat should i make?
Thanks in advance :)
Update:So you are saying id be better of buying the black deck from him rather than buying innistrad deck and changing some of the cards?

I'd say your friend is right, it's a decent starter deck, but not going to beat too many other competitive decks. FYI the only cards in this deck worth more than a few cents are Falkenrath Marauders and Curse of Stalked Prey. I'd say they cost about $1 each. So assuming the starter deck costs $10-12, ya I think you could get a better deal.
Bloodline Keeper would be a great addition and not terribly expensive (abt $4). And like you mentioned Olivia Voldaren (but i think she's almost $10). Even adding a few Doom Blades or Go For the Throats would improve it.
It would probably be better to get his Zombie Tribal, if any thought was put into consistency and synergy it will be better. The starter decks are for people who are just starting magic and want to learn how to play with simple decks. Tribal decks are simple to play and are a great way to learn the game. If you could post the other list I could give you a better answer.
I would have to say that none of the intro packs will give you the money back on cards in the deck. The intro decks are just made to introduce new players and help them learn the game, they are horrible decks.
