with the shot requirements for public schools?
I personaly don't think that a public school should require anything medical for a child. Esspecially shots. I understand private schools making up their own rules but not public school.
I don't plan on vacinating my children (when I have them) untill they are much older but I don't understand why a school should force me to give them anything. I mean when you send your kid to public school you take your chances right?
How do you guys feel on it?
Update:Oh and I don't want to vaccinate my children untill they are OLDER, it doesn't mean I don't want to at all. There are mouch more risks taken when the child is an infant and vaccinated some of the risks include brain dammage, mental retardation, loss of some nerve function etc. I have heard of younger kids with these side effects but never older ones which is why I'm waiting. Plus do you know how rare most of those diseases are that kids get? Very rare, and death is even rarer.
Update 3:I don't see why people have a problem with their kids being around unvaccinated kids hahaha I mean if your kid is vaccinated then what's the problem? They aren't going to get anything in the first place.
Update 5:Redevil I agree with you and this is why I agree with you. If schools have the power to force vaccinations then what else are they going to do?
There was a school in Kentucky (highschool) that wanted to require all females receive the HPV vaccine before comming to school, that WAY over stepps their bounds. Some schools actually do require some kids with sertain dissablities to be medicated and for some kids those medications have bad side effects. I just don't think a public school has the right to force these things on kids.

I'm not happy about public schools having any say in medical issues relating to my children, but they do. Vaccinations are just the tip of the iceberg, what about schools "forcing" parents to medicate their ADHD kids? It's shameless.
I am however all for vaccinating children, as I believe it protects society as a whole against a lot of horrible diseases. Unfortunately there are some who are harmed by the vaccinations themselves, but they are a very small percentage. I took the risk for my kids because I felt it was more important that they be protected against those diseases.
As in most medical decisions, I think you should do your own research instead of blindly following any one's advice, be it the school or your doctor. With information so easily accessible, there is not excuse for not doing your own research.
I think some vaccines are necessary. How do you think diseases like mumps and polio went away? Doctors found a vaccine. I wouldnt want my kids around another that wasnt vaccinated. I think they have the rule for public schools for a reason. Most people who vaccinate homeschool anyways.
I think that it is parents like you who encourage and cause epidemics of controllable diseases resulting in unnecessary deaths for children who are either too young to be immunised or genuinely sick children who cannot be immunised. Deaths from measles, mumps, TB, rubella and polio belong in the dark ages with your view on the subject. You may have the right not to immunise your child, but you don't have the right to put mine at risk.
I believe there are waivers you can sign, depending on where you live.
How do I feel about it? I don't agree. But... if your kids are in school w/ my kids, I am not at all worried, as mine have been vaccinated.
I wholeheartedly believe in vaccinations, but not because the school board says so. I believe it should be done in order to keep the children safe and healthy.

Binky -- Extremely well said! Excellent points made. I agree with you.
well they need to get shots say your child who does not get a shot, say the mmr, measles mumps rubella, and then your child passes it to others, is it fair that my child get ill because you don't want your child to have a shot, not to mention, how would you feel if your child died because the got sick and it may have been prevented, I know I wouldn't want my child to die from something that could have been prevented
Why would you not want to vaccinate your child against serious illnesses? I think you may change your mind when you actually have children.
i disagree with you, but that is all i am going to say on tht matter
