Not looking good for the youngster.......thanks to the curse of Bob......
I was at a XMas party Friday night and a friend showed up who is a huge Bruins fan.........so of course he starts with the " How bout' dem Bruins?" talk......and I said, yeah, well wait until they meet up with the Flyers, Patrice Bergeron will be out for another year (joking of course-wink-wink)........then about 12 hours later.....and it could be the end of the road for Bergeron. In all honesty, it is a shame because I like the kid.
I can tell you right now, I'd say it is 90%+ chance that his season is over. They will not mess with this as they shouldn't.
Thoughts?
Update:Lubers..that was one of my thoughts......it is never a good sign when you get a concussion trying to deliver a hit.......we know all too well with Lindros, Primeau and I still worry about Gagne.

I saw that last night and I couldn't agree more. It was an innocent enough hit as well, Bergeron was the one initiating the contact. I didn't see the entire game, but the clip I saw looked clean on both ends.
I could see this possibly being career ending, not just this season. As you said, they shouldn't mess with this.
EDIT: Sorry, no link. I checked the NHL highlights for the game but it wasn't included.
EDIT: Marc, I hope so. I hate to see any player get hurt. I am a Flyers fan and we have 2 clear examples of situations of the damage a concussion can cause here in Philly. Bob cited Eric Lindros and Keith Primeau. Simon Gagne may be one clean hit away himself. Add into that list Brett Lindros, Pat LaFontaine and Jeff Beukeboom as other players who have had their careers shortened by concussions.
These concussions are scary after you have had a few of them, you are always one hit away from a lost season or the end of a career.
Gagne worries me too, I completely understand why he was upset with the Kovalev hit earlier this year as I'm sure it worries the player too. Amazing that he can be as effective as he as been this year with that hanging over him.
It also has an effect on earnings, even if he can return again from this one it will be a factor in future contract negotiations. How about the olympics? as a Flyer fan do you want Gagne there to perhaps get a career ending concussion?
Sorry for the rambling but you asked for thoughts and they are rambling today
Hi
Lubers do you have a link by chance?
I was pretty busy last night and have not seen nor really head what happened.
Thank You
ps I have to agree with you all about instant memories of other players never being able to fully play again, no matter how hard they try. I watched the Youtube of it and it looked to be a pretty big hit to the head. Usually you see something like that from someone getting hit while not looking, not when they are doing the hitting. It is a real shame when talented people are not able to continue with what they love, but he really should evaluate where he is at this point. I am also for a mandatory rest period following concussions so no one is pressure, guilted, or stupidly comes back early.
Seeing him go down like that made me sick and sad.
I'm not a Bruins fan, but with that being said...he's been so good this year, and it's good for the league as a whole to have cities like Chicago and Boston going well. Plus, he's a great player...I saw him as a comeback player-of-the-year candidate.
I want you to be wrong in the worst way, but unfortunately, with his history...I'm not optimistic. I'm not a doctor, but that looked horrible.
He'll be back. He got up on was skating off on his own so that is a good sign. We'll know more in the next day or two but I think he will be back.
