okay about two weeks ago i was bit under my belly above my pubic area. it blistered and is a purple-ish red color and is now about a inch long my midwife looked at it and said it was a spider bite to put a hot towel on it and it should be ok. i just saw her two days ago but i am still worried about it. she could even tell what kind of spider it could be. i live in Illinois i am still scared about it do you think i should go to the e.r or trust my doctors advice? i am 16 weeks pregnant
Update:when i went to my midwife and she looked at it she said she could see the fang marks in the bite so i am sure its not an abscess i am worried it may be a brown recluse or sac spider which the brown recluse would mean i need to go to e.r my friend was bite by one and stayed a week in the hospital. but i would think my midwife would tell me if she thought it was one of those.

First, a spider would not cause such injury. This is more likely a skin abscess of sort, and the hot towel will usually help these.
Likely you will be just fine, these are common skin conditions, and usually heal on their own.
There is no medical records of such injuries causing complications with pregnancy, including genuine spider bites.
Unless you are dieing, an E room visit can't help at all and would be very expensive.
I have studied spider envenomations, and most people, including doctors have mistaken such injuries for bites. I could not have a clue what spider may have bitten someone, and I have seen many of the real deal.
You really have little to worry about, but if you are concerned, perhaps a visit to a dematologist or clinic will help.
I was bitten by a brown recluse spider in July before I was pregnant. For 1 1/2 weeks I had to get shots and take medications. It's a serious business. I would see a doc asap so you don't harm the baby. Good luck!
