I was recently "dropped" from my school due to the North Carolina Ten Day Rule and came across the dentist's note excusing my first day of the ten days, and the doctor's note excusing a full day of school two school days later. I am currently 17. The principal claimed I would not be allowed re-enrollment. Is this legal? Can I fight it? I just want to finish high school through the school's program with our community college so I can receive an actual high school diploma. I was half way through with my second semester for my senior year and I went out of town during the last part of this ten day period and misplaced the notes before leaving. I found them recently and realized I may at the least be able to return in Fall and finish out a last semester through the community college program to still receive my diploma. In all I would like to know if the notes proving my ten days of consecutive absences were not unlawful; would they be required to re-enroll me?

You can try asking them but just know he administration at your school can do whatever it wants. Finish at a private school or just get a GED. Or, go live with a relative in a different town (different state is best) and finish high school there.
