"I just have one thing to say about promise rings. It's not bad to wear a promise ring," Jordin told the crowd, before introducing T.I's performance, "because not everybody – guy or girl – wants to be a slut."
This is the response that Jordin Sparks made attacking MTV VMA Host Russel Brand who took a shot at the Jonas Brothers about them wearing their "purity rings".
Jordin Sparks comes across as a conservative girl & I believe that she could have rephrased that along the lines of: She could perhaps have rephrased it as "Not everyone is prepared to have sex, and many of us want to wait until that special moment, right after marriage to that special person."
I'm 20 years old & I have a purity ring that I have worn less since I was 14. It's a personal choice & I don't feel that I need to wear it for any reason as long as the decision remains in my heart. It's symbolic but I am not trying to cram my beliefs down anyone's throat.
Did Jordin's statement come across that way?

Maybe, it depends on which side somebody is on. (She put on a bit of weight, didn't she?) Anyway, if you decide to save yourself for marriage, then YAY! for you. But promise rings are a little over-the-top. I think. It does seem like advertising that you are a virgin, and people misunderstand the meaning. But, I wear a wedding ring that shows my fidelity to my husband. So, it might be a little contradictory to my point. I just don't think a ring is necessary, but aw well. Good for you to have great morals. Star.
I don't think her statement came across very well - it sounds like she's judging anyone who has sex before marriage, even if it's with someone they love and trust, to be a slut.
I understand what she was trying to say and I agree that there's nothing wrong with purity rings, but she could have phrased it in a better way. She should have focused on the good things about waiting until marriage, rather than saying that sex before marriage is always bad. I think it's equally wrong that Russell Brand was criticising the choice to wear purity rings though; it isn't any of his business.
Yeah you know, I was kind of thinking the same thing. She had a valid point. And I thought it was very rude to keep poking at the Jonas Brothers for their purity rings especially since MTV is generally geared toward teenagers. Wasn't sex talked about an awful lot for a show aimed at children? BUT I wish she hadn't said the slut thing. Just because you don't wear a promise ring doesn't make you a slut. And just because you don't wait until marriage doesn't make you a slut either. Slut = sleeping around, not just having sex.
I have no problem with what Jordin Sparks said. Put yourself in the shoes of the Jonas Brothers. Imagine you are at the VMA's having a good time and enjoying yourself when this man comes on stage and totally starts to embarass you and tease you in front of everybody because you wear a purity ring. How would you feel? I am glad that Jordin said what she said because it forced that guy to feel very embarassed and apologize for what he said. What gives anybody any right to go up on stage and humiliate a person because of their personal beliefs.
Implying that anyone who doesn't wear a purity ring is a slut is pretty rude of her.
It isn't anyone's business what your sexual status is. It's a personal thing an should be kept personal.
What does this have to do with R&S?
She did come off as rude. I was watching that and I felt like she was insinuating that everyone who has sex before marriage or doesn't wear is a slut. Not to mention the fact that the guy she was directing that at is a recovering nymphomaniac.
No, it didn't and that is old news now!
I am going to waut until I am married and I don't wear a purity ring, I think it is stupid. But if someone wants to wear it, that is their business!
OMG,i think that jordin sparks is someone that u can rlly, rlly look up too!! I think she is completly right and very amazing and its great she said something!!GO JORDIN!!And that host dude is stupid!!
Jordin's statement was very rude. She definitely could have said it better, without making it sound like just because you have sex once, you're a slut forever.
I don't wear one and I'm not a slut. In fact I don't know anyone who does wear one and not every person I know is a slut
