She has a lot of great songs, but if you had to, had to narrow it down to one... mine would be Coat of Many Colors. I love the message behind it.Her song taught me to appreciate what I have and especially the things given to me by my mother.
Oh and a reason or I wont choose you as a best answer.

It's so hard to pick, but if I had to choose, it has to be either I Will Always Love You and Coat of Many Colors. The reasons are because these songs are two of her most autobiographical, and the emotion and passion that Dolly expresses in both of these songs is just unreal. On COMC, you can hear the pain and joy that Dolly endured in this childhood memory is clearly conveyed, in that although the other children made fun of her, she wore her coat proudly, because it was worth more than clothes, as it was made from love. The song really expresses that the strength of a mother's love can overcome anything, and that one really is "only poor, only if they choose to be". IWALY is an incredibly bittersweet song, that is absolutely heartbreaking. It expresses how, although a relationship may end (in this case, the professional breakup of Dolly and Porter Wagoner), we will always love the person, and wish them the very best in life. It expresses unconditional love. Dolly herself has said that out of all of the songs that she's written, these two songs mean more than any others, to her.
Gosh, It's so hard to decide. I have so many favourites. Here are a few:
Coat of Many Colours
My Tennessee Mountain Home
Applejack
Better Get to Livin'
Backwoods Barbie
Heartbreak Express
I like them all for different reasons. I would probably say that Backwoods Barbie is my favourite because it teaches everyone a lesson- so many people get judged for looking artificial and the song shows that it doesn't matter, as long as you're real where it counts. Better Get to Livin' always cheers me up on a bad day. :)
Afterall, it really is hard to choose a favourite as Dolly has written over 3,000 songs. :P

Coat Of Many Colors
I love Appalachian Memories. For one thing I am in the Appalachian Mountains. But the song is just so haunting and I saw Dolly do the song live in concert, and it was chilling. Just absolutely incredible. I have experienced loneliness and depression and I can tell that she has too, because the song is so real from her heart.
"Coat of Many Colors." When I was in elementary school I was teased for a physical problem, and that song came along at the right time to tell me I wasn't the only one where they "were laughing and making fun of me."
I Will Always Love You. It's such a happy/sad song and Dolly has an incredible voice. I think it's been redone or herself doing it as a duet more than any of her other songs.
Daddy WAs an Old Time Preacher Man, I like the harmonies she did with Porter Wagoner and that's a really nice song, I think about her grandfather who was a preacher.
Jolene and I will always love you
