I've been wondering a lot lately when happiness will find me. Up until this point in life, I've done nothing but be my own worst enemy and sabotage myself...so I've decided to take the approach of no longer looking for any kind of happiness and instead wait for it to come to me.

As to what happiness is, technically it is just a feeling brought on by chemical reactions in the brain, which could be called reward mechanisms. Most likely, you are asking how to trigger and maintain it.
I wish I could answer that, but I have been miserable most of my life and that will never change. I get a little bit of happiness when I make a good meal for myself, a good nights sleep, or a few hours spent with friends.
Most people have tough, miserable lives that are dotted with bits of happiness here and there. Don't stop looking though...
That is a terrible way too look at life - I'll just wait for it to come too me... If you want happiness you must go out their and make some... And your not going too be happy with the world until your happy with yourself, so no more "I am my own worst enemy." You will forever have too live with yourself because your are yourself so theirs no point hating yourself...
Condensed idea: The only happiness you will find is that which you create :D
Happiness is the transcending of both pleasure and pain.
The tragedy of human history is decreasing happiness in the midst of increasing comforts.
Happiness depends on what you can give; not on what you can get.
Halfhearted approach will not yield good results and will result in wondering.
Remove and flush out all sorts of impurities and malice hidden in different nooks and corners of the mind. These are pollutants and contaminate the mind. They do not allow the mind to generate healthy, positive, wise and right thoughts, ideas and feelings. Fight with those enemies first.
Happiness is Simply a Choice
It comes from Within
Happiness does not 'Come to You'
It Matters Not What happens to You in Life
What Matters is How you deal with what happens

Personally I think the "Law of Attraction" is a bunch of bunk, met with confilcting quotations and insightful ideas.
"Good things come to those who wait"
"If you seek, you shall find"
"God helps those who help themselves"
"If you try too hard, success will escape you."
Basically, society cannot decide which way to think about this. Its irrational.
Fact is, you got to get out there and put yourself in the position of finding. That said, investing too much into it will only turn *people* off (assuming people is what you seek).
People in our society claim they want to find a friend/romance that is capable of emotional investment... but if you try, you turn them off. If you feel, you turn them off. Women resent men for being uncommitting horn dawgs, but they reward and associate with those types of guys. And when they finally decide they want better, they are too dirty for us nice guys to ever want. Or, they expect us nice guys to be content with raising a kid that isnt ours, after they settle for the kind of guy they dont really want out of financial necessity. Its a bunch of hypocritcal, self-delusional and self-righteous bullshhit.
People are crap. Once you realize that, you will never be disappointed again.
Happiness is only fleeting. It comes and goes. You can't force it.It's not permanent.Being content is more the aim.Somewhere in the middle.
happiness is a feeling when serotonin is released in the brain naturally or induced by medication.
when you forget that you are going to die and be eaten by ants
