there are a lot of insulins, and probably you will need to take it for the rest of your life iN ADDITION TO continuing to take the med for insulin resistance!!
I have to continue to take the Metformin XR and I take a daily injection of 24 hour insulin for basal and a fast acting for meal time carb counts.
Type 2 diabetes is progressive and will progress as IT WISHES rather than as we wish and work hard to prevent. We do not get less insulin resistant, we still must take those meds, but we add insulin first the long acting, then when needed the instant to prevent high glucose spikes after meals. We continue to have to eat very restricted carbohydrate food plans and heavy exercise routines!
Does not matter which insulin is best known, most popular, or anything else like that. They are all currently under patent with no generics yet available in the newer formulations. So all are Rx only except for the older ones and I think there are about 2 or 3 of those left on the market.

Taking insulin does not make you need it forever.
However, if you are a type 1 diabetic, you will need it forever. If you don't take it, you will get very sick. Now or later.
