I already have Seasons and Nightlife (both are very fun), and I want to buy a new one. I don't want Bon Voyage or Pets. Should I get University, Open for Business, Apartment Life or Free Time?
You get to be your own boss and work on your own time. It also allows you to socialize a lot since people come and go to your establishment all the time :) You can even start a home business :) Sell anything and everything you could think of :D Hire/fire people :D It's awesome!!! You can also run a salon, lemonade stand, car dealership, or just a place where people can hang out :) There are no limits, really.
University is not so bad. They get to have degrees and unlock careers with them :) Your sims will also have a longer lifespan because University fills in that awkward stage between adult and teen :D
I say Business, and then University, and then Apartment Life and then Free Time :D
EDIT:
I forgot to add that on Sims University, you get to live in dorms with other sims so you get to socialize a lot, too :)

I agree that you should get Sims 3 - it's a lot more fun than Sims 2 and also more challenging, so you don't get bored as easily.
With Sims 3 out, EA will be putting out fewer (if any) expansion packs for Sims 2. I'm sure expansion packs for Sims 3 are already in development.
The better investment is Sims 3.
