I wanted to go to this school.

But I can't because they chose students through lottery and not grades. I got all A's in 7th and 8th grade, a perfect score in science, and an award by the United States Achievement academy, yet I didn't get in. Can anyone explain why and how this is fair? Some people say since taxes fund the school, everyone should have an equal, not fair, but equal chance of getting in. If that's the case, then why don't colleges funded by taxes operate the same way?
Update:What's so "unpractical" about wanting to go to a charter school like that? And any education is a good education? I really hope your joking.

The K-12 system in our country is designed so that every single child gets an education, and charter schools are expected to handle admissions so that every single child who wants to attend has an equal chance. The point of charter schools is to make better education (than what is currently available) to children, and that doesn't mean just the children with the top grades.
The tertiary system is supposed to be meritocratic. It serves a completely different purpose, and therefore there are completely different rules that govern it. Not all rules apply everywhere, and there are reasons for the rules that are there for charter schools.
Anyone who meets very low standards can go into a community college, incidentally, and earn the chance to go to a 4-year college or a university.
And with your track record, I bet you could do an awful lot to supplement the education you're receiving in school. All it takes is a library card, some discipline, and determination.
Schools are funded by students, and donation just as much. Quit crying. There are public high schools that don't even give students equal opportunities. Just be glad you get too go to school at all. There are numerous colleges where you don't even need to pass the SAT or ACT. If you come close they will give you an entrance exam because they want YOUR money..
Most four year state universities don't require you too pass the ACT or SAT. Any education is a good education. Standards are one thing, being unpractical is another. You'll just owe more money in te long run.
