educated more in terms of the ins and outs of pregnancy: sore breasts, examinations, the foetus,
bleeding after birth, etc.
It seems that half of the population doen't really understand what goes on and I wonder if women encourage this ignorance in the mistaken belief that this is somehow a woman's 'preserve' or 'exclusive club' (I no more think of it as a 'woman's thing' any more than I think
of car mechanics as a 'man's thing').

Based on what's posted in Y!A it seems that there are many WOMEN who are ignorant about these things as well. ("Does labor hurt?" "I've had 4 normal periods but I'm still sure that I'm pregnant. What should I do?" "Why should I go through the pain of labor when I can just have a c-section?" "I ate a pizza... I didn't realize it was bad to eat cheese .... have I killed my baby?")
Sex education and basic biology classes usually provide some information (for both sexes) on pregnancy and fetal development and birth. Beyond that -- it's the choice of the invidivual to educate him/herself ... or to remain ignorant. Or to ask endless ignorant questions on Y!A.

why should guys have to know about that stuff? i dont even want to know about it. And like you said there are things that girls dont really need to know about either.
