I've just started high school and for gym all we do is run the track. I can't even run one lap (about .25 of a mile) without my lungs hurting so bad. In fact, I can only do about half of a lap running. After that, I get a stabbing pain in my right side (my friend calls it a stitch in the side) and sometimes my whole chest hurts. I've tried doing longer strides and taking deeper breaths but nothing works. Do you have any advice on a way to help? And do I have asthma or anything? I'm not overweight, but I don't really exercise.

First, I think you should do breathing exercises, then try to concentrate on breathing while running. Take a full deep breath in & out, & do that about 10x continuously (standing in one place, not running yet). If your lungs hurt while doing this, then you should go see the Dr.
Now, if it doesn't hurt, then try breathing & JOGGING...for maybe one lap. Jog indoor too. Sometimes the cold air or the heat outside can do a lot of impact in your lungs, especially one that hasn't been trained much for strenuous exercise for a long time.
If you're feeling good after all these steps I told you, then try to run, see if that'll solve the problem
FORGIVE MY ENGLISH BECAUSE I SPEAK SPANISH.
WHAT YOU HAVE TO DO IS GOING TO THE DOCTOR BECAUSE YOUR QUESTION CAN'T BE ANSWERED WITHOUT AN EXAM,FOR EXAMPLE AUSCULTATION OF YOUR LUNGS,PERHAPS AN ELECTROCARDIOGRAM...ASTHMA CAUSES SHORTNESS OF BREATH AND USUALLY NEEDS MEDICAL TREATMENT TO IMPROVE,IT DOESN'T SEEMS TO BE ASTHMA.
IT COULD BE SOMETHING ELSE INSTEAD OF YOUR LUNGS,AN INTERCOSTAL NERVE,
LIVER AND KIDNEY ARE PRETTY CLOSE TO THE LUNGS,JUST BELOW IT.THERE ARE PEOPLE WITH THE HEART TO THE RIGHT.PERHAPS ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS MORE EXCERCISE IMMEDIATELY BEFORE RUNNING.
