Ok this is becoming frustrating. I have a 68 ford f100 with a 408 stroker in it. It runs great if I could get it to start. It all started last week when we tried to start it and it wouldn't but we suspected flooding due to wet plugs and backfires with a little gas coming out exhaust. So we pulled plugs dried them and dried cylinders for a few days. Now we try to start it and it doesn't even sound like it wants to turn over. (Just starter noise) then I realized that the fuel filter had no gas in it but the floats in the carb are full and my in line fuel pressure gage measures 6 as normal. So now I'm at a loss for the problem. Can someone please help!!

I know it may sound dumb as ****...but did you run out of gas? Haha those 408's are thirsty machines! But if the carbs are full and youve turned it over it would have probably emptied the carb bowl. Check to see if its getting spark by pulling a plug, putting it in the wire, grounding it to the block and turning it over and watching the plug to see if its sparking. Next id replace the fuel filter and try starter fluid stright down into the carbs
Check for a spark. Ground the shell of a spark plug and watch for a spark.
It seems it's getting gas, but if a squirt of starting ether was no help it would confirm it..
Compression. Borrow a compression tester to check that the valves are working.
Spark.
Fuel
Compression.
Timing.
It's old enough to have a distributor and points. Does it?
