Even though I'm your basic carnivore, I would be hard pressed to find a better invention than my rice cooker. Which doubles as a veggie steamer. Add your rice or veggies, add water and spices, and the steamer does the rest.

I've also used it to make soups and stews in, much as you might use a crock pot.

However, my all time favorite soup in the world is actually a veggie-esque soup from Japan called "miso".There are several kinds and they have a delicious blend of seaweed, tofu, mushrooms, etc. Miso is, however, made with a meat based broth. Usually fish or poultry. That may not be what you're after, but the only time you will ever find actual meat in miso is when it's made that way fresh.

Miso is however a thin soup, and available in powdered form at most decent grocery stores. Add hot water, wait a few minutes, bada BING Baby!, you got yourself some goooood "instant" soup!!!!

I hope some of this helps you out. I've done that whole surgery recovery thing... I don't envy you a bit, but I do wish you well, and a speedy recovery.

Fruits and vegetable smoothies. You might feel hungry, but at least you will get plenty of vitamins and minerals to help you recover. Plus, buying them prepared means that you don't have to cook all the time.

Also, try prepared soups. If you have trouble standing during cooking. Try soups that you can microwave.

I recently bought a large container of Dannon vanilla lowfat yogurt, some Bare Naked granola and random fresh fruit. Mix it all together and it's super tasty! You can even add protein powder if you want...

Canned minestrone soup.

Sandwiches.

Fresh fruit and raw veggies.

Order pizza.

Smoothies. (Costco even has a smoothie blend of mixed berries, just add milk and ice)

Take your leftovers and put them in tupperware containers in the freezer. You'll have ready made meals.

-Hummus and taziki (yogurt cheese dippy stuff).

-Saffron rice and red beans (you can make a large batch and freeze smaller batches to microwave.

-Bagel and spread (nut butter, cream cheese, etc.)

-Peanut butter and jelly.

-Tossed salad (bags of premixes greens are easy).

-Steamed veggies (steam in microwave so you can sit).

-Cereal (I could like on Kashi).

-Oatmal, Farina or Kasha.

-Pasta and sauce, red or pesto (again, you can premake a large batch and freeze smaller batches).

-Cottage cheese and fruit.
