what do you think is a solution to using animals for things such as dissection and all? i mean i KNOW its important for research, im a bio major in college, but that doesnt take away the fact that it hurts seeing animals put through that and killed................it bothers me what would you guys do instead of testing/using animals in labs for stuff like medical knowledge? please only answer if you genuinely have an opinion about this i dont want to hear "who cares just animals" i know alot of people dont care and im fine with that but i really only want to hear opinions on what people who WANT to end it would do
Update:leo: humans choose to be tested on or allow their bodys to be given to science animals dont

I am all for not seeing these poor things suffer--but without these animals, we don't have a way to test new medications. It's as simple as that.
Not to start an argument, do you eat meat? These animals are killed to provide food for (most) of us. I realize I have not seen what a cow goes though in a slaughter house, and honestly just imaging it makes me want to gag, but so many things we use on a daily basis depend on these animals.
I realize this doesn't answer your question exactly but you should be able to see it from another point of view too. So we can agree not to agree on this--yet, in a respectful way.

At a local market, they have "fresh" fish (i.e. in the tank). I hate to go into the details how they prepare them. They hit it with a wooden hammer (!). I guess I am a coward--I only eat the ones that already already dead. Too much meat isn't good (for health reason) and I am cutting down to just a bit per day. But I know exactly what you meant.
I recalled having seen a chicken slaughter before when I was very young. It was very gruesome. The farmer just chopped the head off. I remembered how awful it was (like watching a train wreck - one can't turn away) for a long, long time.
Animal testing is absolutely essential because it would be scientifically, medically, ethically, morally, and legally indefensible to give a human being a substance which had never before been given to a living organism. It is essential that serious or lethal side effects be identified as accurately as possible before proceeding to human trials. Suppose your child had a serious progressive illness, and the doctors told you there was a new drug that might help. Picture this discussion:
Well doctor, what are the risks?
We have no idea.
What are the side effects?
We have no idea.
Could it harm her?
We have no idea.
Could it kill her?
We have no idea.
How long would she have to take the drug?
We have no idea.
What is the safe dosage?
We have no idea.
Ok, well lets give it to her and see what happens.
Not my child!
Some unknowledgeable people say that testing on cell cultures can provide the same information. If that were true, no scientist would waste precious research funds on animal testing, which is many times more expensive. In fact, all new drugs are tested in cell culture before going on to animal trials, and most potential drugs never go on to animal trials because they don’t show promising results in culture. But cell culture testing alone cannot provide the needed information to ensure maximum safety in human trials. A cell culture doesn’t have a heart, lungs, kidneys, blood, a brain, or any other organs. Therefore it cannot predict such side effects as cardiac arrest, lung collapse, kidney failure, blood clots, brain tumors, etc.
Animal testing although seemcruell, but veryimportantl for human and animals lives.
As awful as animal testing is, it is the HUMAN testing that we should keep our eyes on for the distraction and attention to animal testing has distracted our attention from the actual ANIMALS being tested. God Bless all...
