I want to put out there that the school system needs to teach more life skills and trades and cost of living compared to income to type of job. High school was a joke and chose who they would suport to get further edj. and asured the rest we would be fine. I feel I was misguided and robed from a good life.

You know, when school - the 3 Rs was set into place, the world was much different. Most all people were up when the sun rose. They had crops, animals, firewood to attend to. Although I agree Math, spelling, grammar are important, yes the current system is failing. The teachers - most - are just there for the paycheck, and the summers off. NOT ALL TEACHERS. most. they tell the kids to open your book, complete all of the odd problems, then that is it. When approached by student and even the parent, they're reply is " I explained the assignment, if you/they had paid attention then they would know how to do it.
This is the same at college level. It is lame, when the teacher should say, ' I'm sorry, I just am not able to teach what I do not know my self....
YES, this is a sore spot with me. The mother of four children. I do more of the explaining and teaching at my dinning table than my children receive in the class room.
Life skills, well we all have a view on what these skills should be. All I know is, if all was taught thoroughly while children are in the class room... they would have a better understanding...What it comes down to is, if you understand the lesson/material then the teacher is thrilled. If you do not you are screwed. BECAUSE, instead of time being spent with those students who need the extra guidance, the teacher does not want to put forth the effort.
Thanks for asking. I heard a teacher comment that her student did not know how to spell. She was rather smug about this fact. I looked at her and asked, " you are the one teaching her... you are paid to help this student learn... so you are saying you have failed to teach correct spelling." Don't blame the student... look into the instruction he/she receives.
Agreed. I think life courses on budgeting, basic cooking, generally keeping yourself healthy & safe would be more useful than extra languages or that kind of thing. At least a person would leave school with the ability to make ends meet and look after themselves. Too much education has been aimed at elitist jobs when in fact most people are going to be doing basic work for money to live.
Well, that's at least 3 issues right there, but anyhow, I do have
a suggestion that helped me/
