Im installing laminate flooring in my bedroom . Im installing it over an old parquet floor . Im using foam underlayment . My questions are do I lay it with a 1/4 inch gap to match the planks / Or do I extend it to the wall or go up the all a few inches and trim it later ? The underlayment has an adhesive strip on one side , for the sides without adhesive . Can I thumb tack them down or duct tape them ?

The foam should be flashed up the wall a couple of inches and trimmed after the job is done.
You need no gaps for the foam..
You bond the foam together with that adhesive strip.
I always lay the foam as I go. Don t do any more rows of foam than what you need. It hard to work around it and over it when to much is layed out and the boards will hold it down as you go.
The laminate should be spread out all over the room in unopened boxes so you can t spread the foam underlay any way..
Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar . I ve attended several installation seminars as well as layed a couple 100,000 s/f. GL
